Trip to Kauai

We arrived in Lihue, Kauai for a few days of vacation. We went to pick up our rental car and they had problems with the reservation. Consequently, they gave us a Mustang convertible and free gas. A nice bonus.

I wear something besides a henley every once in a while and so as proof, I thought I would document it here.

The first afternoon we ate at a roadside shrimp place. It was fantastic. Being that it was Jenn's idea, I have yet to hear the end of it :)

We went to the South west part of the Island to see the twin falls. Here they are. Nice, huh?

After that, we found a place that rented Kayaks so we did, and then hiked to Secret Falls, which proved to be quite an adventure.

On the way to the begining of the hike, Jenn saw that a couple who had fallen in the water were having a hard time swimming. She jumped in for the lady and I pulled the guy in with my paddle. Jenn got them up and in their Kayak while I held it steady. Shortly after celebrating our life saving heroics and telling each other how great we were, we tipped our Kayak over and got in a fight. What happened to Karma???? We cooled down in the falls and the rest of the day was great.

One day we went for a hike in the Waialua Canyon. It was fantastic. The valley you see here looks to be about a mile wide by a mile deep.

The mist rolled in towards the end of the day and we turned back early. By the time we got back to the big valley at the beginning, it was totally hidden by clouds.

Scenes from our condo.

The condo itself was fantastic. The sound of the surf hitting the rocks filled the condo all day and night. It was pretty mellowing.

Sunset just around the corner from the Condo. All the sunsets were pretty fantastic.

This rainbow was so big I took two pictures and put it together on the computer. If you look closely you can see a second raibow just above the first. It was more visible in person so I guess you had to be there.

We decided to stay a night on the north shore and these pictures are taken along the way.

A lighthouse. It wouldn't be a trip with Jenn if she didn't find one
This mountain is called Kong. One guidebook told us it was where they filmed King Kong and then another disagreed and said Jurassic Park was filmed here. Either way, it still looks like an ape.

The fancy-schmancy hotel and the view. Jenn said she felt like she was on a movie set or in a movie. I guess that is a good thing. I thought it was cool that the TV moved up and down in the console with a remote.

The last day we did a dinner cruise of the Napali coast. Pictures don't do the cliffs justice. The cruise was fun and all along the way the staff told us which movies were made here. It was a long list.

That's all folks.

Trip to Utah

So, we went to Snowbird to ski in Utah. What a great experience. Jenn was nervous about the altitude since she suffered some sickness at Colorado. The answer - Gatorade. A little in the morning, lunch and dinner and we had no problems.

The first day was an average day skiing, the second it was warm and slushy at the end of the day and then is started snowing. By 7pm it was a full on snow and it didn't quit till the next day.
The night it snowed the sunset put out a purplish light. It was pretty different and cool. Jenn loved it. We have a few more pictures but this is the one you get.

This is the morning of the big snowfall. It doesn't look like much in this picture but it was a lot of snow for what we were used to skiing in.

By the afternoon, it was sunny and perfect. We ended up in the bowls for the rest of the day and had a blast.

So, we had a great trip. No altitude related problems, no accidents, good food and a great time.
